About a month ago one of my friends lent me a book. This book was Lockwood & Co: The Screaming Staircase, which I thoroughly enjoyed reading (I don’t think I’ve liked reading a book so much in a long time). This may have been because I haven’t read any book even slightly like it before or just because in my opinion it was very well written - Jonathan Stroud has the ability to take a place that exists in our world and turn it into something completely different yet still similar enough for the reader to in a way be able to connect with the story/the place.
Or it could’ve been because I liked the book cover design… It was nice and blue :)

The book is written by Jonathan Stroud and long story short it has ghosts in it! Ok I will try and explain it a bit better than that. The story is set in London, which the author says is because he used to live there so he knows the area and there are three main characters, Anthony Lockwood, George Cubbins, and Lucy Carlyle. The story is written from Lucy’s perspective and basically because I don’t know how to word this any better:
Lucy, George + Lockwood are a part of Lockwood & Co.
They are ghost hunters
They haven’t been making much money
They get this really weird job
And because I know that was a terrible explanation here is the blurb:

When the dead come back to haunt the living, Lockwood & Co. step in . . .

For more than fifty years, the country has been affected by a horrifying epidemic of ghosts. A number of Psychic Investigations Agencies have sprung up to destroy the dangerous apparitions.

Lucy Carlyle, a talented young agent, arrives in London hoping for a notable career. Instead she finds herself joining the smallest, most ramshackle agency in the city, run by the charismatic Anthony Lockwood. When one of their cases goes horribly wrong, Lockwood & Co. have one last chance of redemption. Unfortunately this involves spending the night in one of the most haunted houses in England, and trying to escape alive.

Set in a city stalked by spectres, The Screaming Staircase is the first in a chilling new series full of suspense, humour and truly terrifying ghosts. Your nights will never be the same again . . .

So basically if you are looking for a good book to read then I would recommend this one because I liked it so it must be good. Just kidding. But if you don’t know what else to read it can’t hurt to borrow it from your local library and see if you like it.

Comment challenge thing…
Name a book you have read recently that you enjoyed.

Till next time,
Erin xoxo.
